Athlete – Basketball
Briana Green’s basketball skills have led to many accomplishments. She could be described as a pioneer in today’s world as her path has led to an intersection of sports, basketball, and entertainment.
Briana began playing basketball and standing out at a very early age. As an athlete at Leestown Middle School, she led her team to a city championship and broke a record with a 48-point game. Briana’s talent also did not go unnoticed by her district high school, Paul Laurence Dunbar, as they eventually pulled her up to play varsity. The Dunbar coaching staff made her a starter as an eighth grader.
After graduating from Leestown, Briana joined her older brother at Lexington Catholic High School, where she helped lead her new team to back-to-back state championships with records of 36-1 and 38-1 while averaging 15.1 points per game. She was All-State, All-District, and All-Region all four years of high school.
As a McDonald’s All-American nominee, Briana chose the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to further her education and play basketball. There she was ranked eighth in the country for assist-to-turnover ratio as a freshman and was a Conference USA Rookie of the Year nominee. Briana went on to become a member of the UTEP 500-point club despite two ACL tears. Also, while at UTEP, she was a Conference USA Champion and helped lead the Miners to a March Madness appearance her senior year.
After graduating from UTEP, Briana went on to play professionally in the Czech Republic (2014), Spain (2014-2015) and in Mexico (2015).
In 2016, Briana was chosen by the Harlem Globetrotters as only the 15th female team member in the history of the iconic organization. As a Globetrotter, she became known as “Hoops” and traveled the world showcasing her high-level basketball skills, with dribbling beingher specialty. Briana made her way into the “Magic Circle,” highlighting her ball-handling abilities, and she was a key player featured in the family-friendly and fun atmosphere for which the Harlem Globetrotters are so well known. Over a four-season span, Briana was also an advanced ambassador for the organization, making hundreds of appearances at schools, hospitals, and other community sites to interact with the public as the face of the Harlem Globetrotter organization.
Following her tenure with the Globetrotters, Briana has made an impressive mark as an accomplished and sought-after social media content creator with ties to the entertainment industry. She has been featured in music videos, film and television, is a sports model, and has had numerous brand collaborations (e.g., NCAA, Gatorade, NBA, WNBA, and Amazon). As a leading influencer in the sports industry, Briana has a massive following of more than 615,000 on Instagram, 191,000 YouTube subscribers, and 507,000 followers on TikTok. This area of work has led to more recognition and accomplishments – being selected to the “We the Culture” cohort (2022) and the first Black Creator Program at Meta.
Finally, Briana has been consistent with a spirit of service. Her father, William Green, has modeled consistent volunteer service and Briana joined him throughout her youth to volunteer at a homeless shelter every Thursday. She has given back to Lexington by offering free “Hoop for the Culture” camps with a former teammate/friend. Briana is currently planning a renovation of an outdoor basketball court here in Lexington.
