Athlete – Football
George Adams was raised on the west side of Lexington, the youngest of nine siblings and son of the late Ruth Adams and George Adams. He was a standout athlete in multiple sports at Winburn Junior High School. George then played both football and basketball at Lafayette High School, where he was an All-City and All-State performer in football.
Following his high school career, George earned a full scholarship to play football at the University of Kentucky. At UK, George ranks sixth all-time in rushing yards with 2,468, fourth in rushing touchdowns with 25, and is tied for fourth in single-season touchdowns with 13. George was also selected to the First Team All-Southeastern Conference Team. He helped lead Kentucky to back-to-back Hall of Fame Bowl appearances, and was chosen Most Valuable Player of the 1983 bowl game. George was also named UK’s Most Valuable Senior and Most Outstanding Offensive back in 1984. George was inducted into the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class in 2005.
George was the 19th overall pick in the 1985 NFL Draft, being the first running back drafted that season. George played seven seasons in the National Football League with the New York Giants and New England Patriots. During that time he gained 886 yards on the ground, 1,014 yards receiving, scored seven touchdowns, and won a Super Bowl Championship in 1986 with the New York Giants.
George is the proud father of DeAndre Adams, George “DJ” Adams, Janelle Carter, and Jamal Adams. He now resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife, Michelle Adams. He enjoys family time and also following and supporting his son Jamal’s NFL career. George continues to pour into the youth in Texas with his workout programs and mentorships.
