Athlete – Football, Baseball

Shane Boyd is an American football quarterback from Kentucky with over 14 years of professional experience that spans across the National Football and Arena Football leagues.

Early Years

Growing up in Pralltown as the son of Scherer Boyd, an Army veteran of more than 20 years, Shane and his two siblings, Aaron and Karmari, lived in many places across the United States, but Lexington, KY is where his family calls home. His family made the difficult decision for him to move back to Fayette County with his uncle Glenn to raise him and play sports while attending Henry Clay High School from 1996-2000.

While at Henry Clay, Shane was a standout student who graduated with a weighted 4.2 gpa. He was a three-sport athlete lettering in basketball, baseball, and football as a Blue Devil. Shane made All-City honors in basketball, and All-State honors and KY USA Player of the Year in baseball before being drafted in the 13th round of the Major League Draft to the Minnesota Twins. He was also ranked the #1 football player in the state of Kentucky while also being recognized as a top-100 player in the nation. Shane committed to continue his academic and athletic career by staying home and attending the University of Kentucky.

College

Shane excelled in his collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Education/Kinesiology and Health Promotion. Shane was a two-sport athlete playing football and baseball for the Cats, where he was drafted again into the MLB in the 2004 MLB Draft as a pitcher. However, his passion for football was a priority in his life. On the gridiron, Shane was a standout quarterback becoming one of the youngest players to ever start a game in the Southeastern Conference while also becoming only the second player in league history to record a passing, receiving, and running touchdown in a single game (vs. Ohio University).

Professional

After his college playing career ended, Shane entered into the National Football League with the Tennessee Titans in 2005, and played approximately five years in the NFL. He also played quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans before his Achilles injury sidelined him, which led him to the Arena Football League after a successful recovery. Shane played for the Tampa Bay Storm, Arizona Rattlers, Cleveland Gladiators, and Baltimore Brigade, amassing over 6,000 career passing yards and a record-setting number of touchdowns over nine seasons.
