TRACYE DAVIS

Athlete – Basketball

Tracye Davis was born in Lexington, KY, to Sylvester and Shirley Davis. The youngest of seven children, Tracye began playing basketball early in life, to be exact, in the 2nd grade for Grey YMCA, Jr. Pro with the Douglass Demons (a boys team), Winburn Jr. High, and Henry Clay High School. 

At Henry Clay, Tracye earned All-City and All-State First Team honors all three years of high school, and she was a Jr. Kentucky All-Star. Tracye also earned Converse High School All-American and Central Kentucky All-American honors. In 1987, Tracye was 3rd runner-up for Miss Kentucky Basketball and also played in the Kentucky/Indiana All-Star game.

After receiving hundreds of college offers, Tracye selected the University of Kentucky. The precision passer led the team in assists for two years and continues to be ranked in assists and steals. Tracye also earned Second Team All-SEC and several other awards, particularly a Community Service Award for her contribution as a volunteer with Special Olympics, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

After her highly successful playing career at the University of Kentucky, Tracye played in the Professional Women’s Basketball League for the Kentucky Marauders until the league folded in 1995. She continued to stay involved with basketball by playing for a Nashville All-Stars Travel Team, coaching AAU basketball, and serving as a former head coach at Fisk University in Nashville. Tracye continues to conduct basketball skills clinics with Nashville Parks & Recreation.

Tracye earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Kentucky and worked for the V.A. Medical Center, Federal Correctional Institute (retired), the State of Tennessee as a probation officer and in case management, and at Vanderbilt Medical Center as a counselor.

Tracye has lived in Nashville, TN, for the last 24 years, where she is a social worker. She spends her spare time cycling and coaching youth basketball.
