Lexington Catholic football star Winston Guy played on both sides of the ball for the Knights from 2005 to 2008. Born April 23, 1990, to parents Winston Guy and Renessa Guy, Winston led Catholic to a Class 3A KHSAA state championship as a sophomore, followed by 13-2 record and a Class 4A KHSAA state title as a senior. Winston was a First Team All-State defensive back, and he was named to the Lexington Herald-Leader’s “Class of the Commonwealth” listing of the top 22 seniors in the state in 2008. He still holds the Knights’ record for most career sacks with 19.5.
In addition to his football prowess, Winston was also a formidable force in track and field. He was Class 3A state champion in the 100-meter dash and was part of Catholic’s 4×100-meter relay championship team as well. A multi-sport performer, Winston also played basketball for the Knights for two years.
Following an outstanding high school career, Winston signed with the University of Kentucky, where he was a three-year starter and earned Second Team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2011. He played in 50 games with 34 starts, recording 283 tackles, five interceptions, 18 tackles for losses, seven passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The multi-faceted defensive specialist played cornerback as a freshman, free safety as a sophomore, strong safety as a junior, and hybrid safety/linebacker during his senior year for the Wildcats. Winston was also Kentucky’s primary kickoff returner, netting 10 returns for a 29.1-yard average. His 96-yard runback against Georgia is the longest non-scoring kickoff return in UK history.
Drafted in 2012 in the sixth round of the National Football League Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, Winston enjoyed a six-year career in the NFL, playing strong safety for Seattle, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Indianapolis Colts.
Winston’s jersey was recently retired at Lexington Catholic.
