STEVE MILLER

Athlete – Basketball

Steve Miller enjoyed a storybook high school career for the Henry Clay Blue Devils in the early 1980s. His hoops highlights include being named First Team All-City and First Team All-State his junior and senior years, and he was voted All-Region for two consecutive years. Steve was also a member of the Junior All-Star Team that was selected to tour Europe his junior year.

The storybook continued with a basketball season experienced by only a select few players in Kentucky’s more than 100-year history of outstanding high school basketball. To top off the admirable achievements of his junior year, Steve helped lead legendary Coach Al Prewitt’s 1983 Blue Devils to the KHSAA Sweet 16 State Championship in Rupp Arena. He earned a well-deserved spot on the All-Tournament team and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Perhaps the crowning cap of Steve’s high school career was earning the coveted title of Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball in 1984 during his senior year at Henry Clay. Steve was later named a Street & Smith All-American and First Team Converse All-American. He was the Blue Devils’ all-time leading scorer for more than 33 years with 1,828 points and was inducted into the Henry Clay High School Hall of Fame.

Steve continued his playing career at Western Kentucky University from 1984-1989 and later played professionally in South America and Australia. He was inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
