Roundballer Everett Bass was born in Georgetown, KY, on November 25, 1950, and moved to Lexington in 1952. He attended St. Peter Claver Elementary, Lexington Junior High School, and Henry Clay High School. After high school, Everett earned a scholarship to play basketball at Transylvania University. Following an extraordinary career with the Pioneers, Everett graduated from Transy in 1972 with a B.A. in Social Studies. and completed a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs at Kentucky State University in 1975. 

Everett is married to Harriet Bass and has three children, Alicia Jackson Brown, Colby Verrett, and Chelsea Bass. He is a member of the Church Without Walls in Houston, TX, and is a former member of the Transylvania University Board of Trustees. An involved citizen, Everett has been named to every award given by Tampa Big Brothers and Big Sisters, including Big Brother of Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Board Member of the Year. He is also a member of several other professional boards in the solid waste industry.

Following are Everett’s extensive basketball achievements:

While at Henry Clay, Everett played on the 1968 Henry Clay Blue Devils team that represented the 11th Region in the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen State Tournament. He was also selected to play in the 1968 Kentucky High School East/West All-Star Game. In 1970, Everett set the Transylvania all-time single season rebounding record with 418 rebounds. During his senior year in 1972, Everett set Transylvania’s all-time rebounding record with 1,308 rebounds and remains the Pioneers’ fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,875 points. Both rebounding records are current and have been held for more than 50 years.

After graduating from Transy, Everett was selected to play in the 1972 Kentucky/Tennessee College All-Star games, which were the last games coached by famed University of Kentucky Coach Adolph Rupp. He went on to serve as an assistant basketball coach in two different NCAA Final Fours – 1977 with the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and 1980 with Purdue University. Both Mideast Regionals were won in Rupp Arena, and fellow Henry Clay Blue Devil and 2022 LAASHOF Hall of Famer Michael Scearce was a member of that Purdue team. In addition to coaching, Everett is also a thoroughbred horse owner whose horses have won races in Ohio, Louisiana, and Texas.

In 1994, Everett was inducted into the Transylvania University Pioneer Hall of Fame. 

Everett’s professional career included being Sanitation Director for the City of Tampa from 1987 to 1992, Solid Waste Director for the City of Houston from 1992 to 2000, and Vice President for Public Sector Services and Community Relations for Waste Management from 2000 to 2011. He retired in 2011 and formed EAB Connection Services.
